Students’ Activity
Water cycle is one of the most interesting environmental cycles to learn about. Do you agree with that?

That’s our lesson for today. The water cycle.

It can be divided into four main stages. Let us understand each stage one by one. You can always refer to the diagram on the board for better understanding.

http://64.19.142.12/www.buzzle.com/img/articleImages/330801-58627-28.jpg

The water cycle has four stages. The first stage is the evaporation. In this stage, the Sun starts to evaporate the water in the water bodies. Do you know what examples of water bodies are? Yes ____.

Very good ___. So, this water is in the liquid stage in the water bodies, but change in weather and heating due to Sun converts it into gaseous form. Slowly, these vapours of water start rising up, to the sky. Transpiration, which is water escaping from plants due to Sun's heat, also contributes to some extent, to the process of evaporation. So, again what is transpiration? Yes ___.

Very good ___. Did you understand the first stage which is the evaporation?
We will go now to the second stage which is the condensation. Again what comes after evaporation? Yes ____.

Very good ___. In this stage the cloud formation occurs. The water in the form of the vapours rising cools down at a certain height and condenses to form clouds.
So, in condensation what forms? Yes ____.

Did you understand the second stage which is the condensation?

Very good. We learned evaporation and condensation. Does anyone know what comes next?

Yes ___.

Does anyone can simply explain the third stage which is precipitation?

Yes ____.

Very good ____. You studied very well our lesson.  In precipitation, The water keeps condensing to form clouds, but when there is too much collection of water in these clouds, the clouds become heavy, that’s why there is rain. This means the air can no longer hold this much amount of water, and the water starts to fall back, mostly in the form of rain. What are the forms of water falls down?

Yes _______.

Very good ___. What else?

Very good ___. Did you also know that there is partially melted snow? Do you know how it calls?

It is called sleet. It is a partially melted snow.

Did you understand the third stage which is the precipitation?

We had discussed evaporation, condensation and precipitation. Does anyone know the last stage of water cycle? Yes ____.

Very good ____.

In this stage, the water falling down in the form of rain or snow gets collected in different water bodies. When it falls on the ground, it gets stored under the ground. What do we call to the water under the ground? Yes _____.

Very good. Ground water is the water under the ground. Then, again evaporation starts due to the Sun's heat and the cycle repeats. That’s why it is called a cycle, the stages or process repeat.

How many stages in water cycle?

Yes ____.

Very good ___. And what are those ____?

Very good children. You’ve listened attentively in our discussion.
Yes teacher

Yes teacher

Some of the water bodies are oceans, lakes, rivers, ponds etc.

Teacher, transpiration is the process which is water escaping from plants due to Sun’s heat.

Yes teacher

The second stage teacher is condensation.

Clouds teacher.

Yes teacher.

(Pupils raising their hands)

The next is precipitation teacher.

(Pupils raising their hands)

It is when the water falls from the atmosphere to the ground.

(Pupils raising their hands)

In form of snow teacher.

In form of hail teacher.

(pupils are thinking)
We don’t know teacher.

Aaaah. (Pupils are amaze)

Yes teacher

I think its collection teacher.

Ground water teacher.

(Pupils raising their hands)

There are four stages in water cycle teacher.

The four stages of water cycle are evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection.

            E. Generalization
Teacher’s Activity
Students’ Activity
In this day’s lesson, what have you learn children? Yes,

Very good___ .What happens during evaporation?

Very good____. How about in condensation?

Very good___. After condensation, what comes next?

Very good ____. We’ve done to evaporation, condensation and precipitation. So, what comes next?

So, again what is the process of water cycle?
Yes___.

So, what is the importance of taking-up this lesson? Yes___.

Very good___. What else have you learned children?

Very good ___. Why you said that so?

Very good children, You’ve learned a lot today. Anyone else can share importance of water cycle? Yes ____.

Very good children, you listened carefully in today’s topic.
I learn about the process of water cycle; the evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection.

Evaporation states that water on the earth’s surface is heated by the sun. When the water is heated, it evaporates.

Condensation states that it goes into the air as water vapor. When this water vapor up in the air is cooled, it condenses into tiny drops of water.

Precipitation teacher! It is when the water falls from the atmosphere to the ground.

Collection teacher! IT IS when the water is gathered into different bodies of water like oceans, lakes and river.

The processes of water cycle are evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection.

It is important because it will help us to predict the upcoming weather condition, so that we are ready if it will rain or shine and we can plan activities for the whole day teacher.

 I learned to conserve water

Because nowadays the earth have less supply of water needed by the people and during rainy and sunny days, water is very important.

The uses of dams are very essential because those are needed to collect water when it rains and dams provide us water to use in daily lives.

G. Exercises
Teacher’s Activity
Students’ Activity
Now, let’s have an activity. Do you want to have an experiment?

Ok, I have here a plate, a clear glass, a candle and a lighter.

Let me explain to you the procedures then follow the instructions carefully and be responsible of your actions. Why do so? Yes ___.

Very good ____.

This is a simple experiment to perform. Take a plate and fix a candle in the middle of the plate. Light the candle (ask an adult to help you with it). Then put a clear glass on the candle, which should be big enough to cover up the whole candle.

Did you understand the instructions children?

Very good so, let’s start the experiment.
Kindly write your observations your notebook.

Yes teacher!

(students look on the materials)

Teacher because by the use of lighter, we might get hurt and also if the glass might break it can cause harm.

Yes teacher

Yes teacher.

(Students do as they are instructed)

IV. Evaluation:
Write your answer in a piece of paper.
Test I.
Instruction: True or False. Write T if the statement is true and F if the statement is false.
____ 1. When water is heated, it condenses into tiny drops of water.
____ 2. Evaporation, condensation, and precipitation are the process that makes up the water cycle.
____3. When water falls from the atmosphere to the ground it is called precipitation.
____4. When water is heated by the sun, the water molecules go up into the air as water cycle.
____5. Many drops of water form clouds.

Test II.
Instruction: Explain briefly.
What is the importance of conserving water and how can you help to conserve water nowadays?

IV. Assignment:
Read and study next lesson, Climate Change on pages 226-229 on your Science book.
