Miss Phatuphats

Miss Phatuphats

A Filipina trying to be foreign, that is how I describe Miss Phatuphats of Juan Crisostomo Soto. She one of who forgot to look back to where they first belong after they’ve learned foreign language. She is denying that she doesn’t know how to speak Kapampangan eventhogh she is obviously a Filipino because of her feature. From the story when she is always denying that she doesn’t know how to speak Kapampangan because she can speak a foreign language which is English. Lots of Filipino nowadays are like Miss Phatuphats who are foolishly eaten by the idea that, in order  to gain respect from other, some of the Filipino trying to fit-in, in the life of American have because they believe that being American is a step in gaining success, respect and contentment in life.
Another characteristic of Miss Phatuphats that I really don’t like her when she says wicked words towards the people that made her knew that she is a Kapampangan and knew  how to speak her native language. I know that everyone losses temper but saying wicked and evil words most especially towards other is not good. It doesn’t draw back what person says to you but adding a reason to hate and avoid you. It is funny that Miss Phatuphats trying to have a white skin, to the point she put lots of powder in her face and body in order to hide her true complexion; having a dark skin as dark as duhat, and it is clear that she is truly a Filipina and not an American woman. It is revealed when she cried in the middle of unjust judgment of the Filipino to the choice made by Miss Phatuphats. Another thing is, she is trying to be an American girl, to the point she is trying to fit her big hips to her skinny skirt and alike narrate in the story.
English is considered as the most widely spoken language anywhere across the globe. And having a great mind Miss Phatuphats learned easily how to speak English. Her courage to be educated of the foreign language drives her to embrace not only the language of American but its culture also. It is the emulating quality of Miss Phatuphats, not on the way she embrace the culture of another land but her mind set that she should learned to speak English in order to convey her thoughts to more larger number of people.
